pollution rates in Uganda
Air Pollution
Air pollution in Uganda is increasing, especially in urban areas like Kampala. It is mainly caused by vehicle emissions, burning of waste, dust from roads, and industrial activities. Many busy roads have high levels of smoke and dust, which affects breathing and contributes to respiratory diseases.
Water Pollution
Water pollution is a serious issue in areas near lakes, rivers, and wetlands. Waste disposal, sewage, plastic dumping, and industrial discharge pollute water sources such as Lake Victoria. This affects drinking water quality, fishing, and aquatic life.
Land Pollution
Land pollution is common due to improper waste management. In many places, garbage is dumped in open areas or drainage systems instead of proper landfills. Plastic waste is a growing problem in both cities and rural trading centers.
Overall Situation
Pollution levels in Uganda are moderate but rising, especially in cities. Rapid urban growth, population increase, and limited waste management systems are making the problem worse over time.
